On the up side carpeting is cheap stuff.
If you can clean and dry it you might go on the flea bay and purchace a few pounds of edta and smother your rug with it working it in deeply before vacuuming the excess off.
Edta will bind specifically to the ionic minerals.
This takes them out of the food chain for the molds and bacteria.
This starves any that try to re colonize.
The stuff is harmless to you.
